Melendez to Exhibit at London Design Festival

Professor Frank Melendez‘s start-up, bioMATTERS, will exhibit its 3D wall system, Meander Series, at the 2019 London Design Festival. Meander Series, which will be part of the festival’s Biodesign Here and Now exhibition, has a dual performative function: it provides a solution for sound sensitive environments and improves indoor air quality. The exhibition runs September 19-22 at Open Cell in London, with an opening event on Thursday, September 19, 6-10 p.m. (BST).

The Meander Series 3D wall system is made of panels manufactured with a biocomposite made by a component of mycelium and industrial waste that reduces echo and resonance, and by another component that integrates activated carbon to clean the air by removing VOCs (volatile air compounds).

Open Cell is the first public research center for consumer-facing biotechnology and biodesigners. The biodesign exhibit showcases materials, manufacturing, architecture, and fashion projects that break the boundaries among biology, design, and technology.
