Student Work Selected for Computer-Aided Design Conference

Independent study coursework by Valeria Rybyakova M Arch I ’16 has been selected for exhibition at this year’s Association for Computer-Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) Conference.

Rybyakova’s independent study course with Professor Frank Melendez focused on continued research into potential applications for soft robotic systems in architecture, through the use of physical computing, sensing, actuation, and elastomer materials. She worked with Prof. Melendez and Nancy Diniz (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) on a research project titled “Liquid Actuated Elastomers: Soft Architectural Systems,” which was submitted to the Association for Computer-Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) 2016 Conference.

The project poster was accepted and will be exhibited at the ACADIA Conference, “Posthuman Frontiers: Data, Designers, and Cognitive Machines,” at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, October 27-29, 2016.
