M Arch Student Presents at Association for Community Design Conference

Avi Nagel M Arch ’19 presented at the 40th annual Association for Community Design (ACD) conference in June in Dallas, Texas. Nagel’s presentation, “NYC Million Trees, and an Open Urban Forest,” used the TreeCensus open-source database and asked for ideas on pairing cloud-based GIS integration with community participation to create more transparency in selecting planting locations.

The Spitzer School of Architecture was also highlighted at a reception by conference host buildingcommunityWORKSHOP, where a history pin-up on community design organizations recognized the school’s J. Max Bond Center as one of the country’s longest-running community design centers.

ACD40’s theme, CommUNITY, sought to ignite conversations about the different models of practice that the field of community-engaged design uses to operate successfully. Some 200 attendees came from 27 states and represented 108 organizations at the three-day event.
