For over forty years, Patricia Johanson’s multidisciplinary designs have combined art, ecology, landscape, and infrastructure into dynamic public landscapes. Her projects in Dallas, San Francisco, Petaluma, Salt Lake City, and Scranton incorporate municipal flood basins, sewers, water-treatment systems, flood control structures, and restored wildlife habitats into public parks and trails that are framed and made accessible by sculpture. Her work embodies her vision of the city as an ecological art form. A graduate of Bennington College (BA, 1962) and Hunter College (MA, 1964), Johanson also received a Bachelor of Architecture from the City College of New York in 1977.

PLOT is an award-winning annual journal produced by the Master of Landscape Architecture students of the City College of New York’s Spitzer School of Architecture. The theme of PLOT Volume 5 (2016) is FILTER. We invite the featured cover artist to speak about her work as part of an ongoing lunchtime lecture series.
