She established her practice – Atelier of Architecture and Urban Design - in 2013\, whi ch has been dedicated to public architecture\, exhibition design\, interio r design and non-profit partnerships in the United States\, Brazil\, and E urope. She holds an architecture degree from The City University of New Yo rk (2006)\, a Master in Architecture from Harvard University Graduate Scho ol of Design (2013) and a Ph.D. in History of Architecture and Urbanism fr om the University of Sao Paulo (2018). She currently teaches at Barnard Co llege – Columbia University and The City College of New York.\n\nSuggest ed Reading: Correia\, Marina. “The Right to Imagine: Michael Sorkin’s Visual Argument.” Drawing Matter\, June 8\, 2026.\n\nDr. Marta Gutman (s he/her) is an architectural and urban historian\, is dean of the Spitzer S chool of Architecture at the City College of New York | CUNY\, the city’ s premier public school of architecture. Expert in the history of public a rchitecture for children and in repurposing architecture as a strategy for city-building\, she studies ordinary places in cities. Through this work\ , she tackles power and culture in all walks of life\, emphasizes the acti vism of women especially on behalf of children\, and ties local stories to national and international histories. Gutman’s commitment to social jus tice has been manifest since she started her career as an architect design ing housing for the New York City Housing Authority and shelters for batte red women\, abused children\, and homeless New Yorkers. Gutman’s A City for Children: Women\, Architecture\, and the Charitable Landscapes of Oakl and won the Kenneth Jackson Award for Best Book (North American) in urban history (2015) and the Spiro Kostof Book Award (2017). A Distinguished CUN Y Research Fellow in 2018\, Gutman is the immediate past president of the Society for American City and Regional Planning History\, a founding coedi tor of PLATFORM\, and a former coeditor of Buildings &\; Landscapes: Jo urnal of the Vernacular Architecture Forum. Her chapter “Intermediate Sc hool 201: Race\, Space\, and Modern Architecture in Harlem\,” in Educati ng Harlem: A Century of Schooling and Resistance in a Black Community\, ed s. Ansley T. Erickson and Ernest Morrell (Columbia\, 2019)\, received the Catherine W. Bishir Prize in 2021. She’s currently writing Just Space: M odern Architecture\, Public Schools\, and Racial Inequality in New York Ci ty (University of Texas Press).\n\nDr. Zaida Muxi (she/her) holds a Ph.D. in Architecture and has been a Distinguished Professor at TEC de Monterrey ’s School of Architecture\, Art and Design since October 2023\, where sh e coordinates the certificate program “Architecture\, City\, and Gender ” Professor in the Department of Urban Planning\, Land Use Planning\, an d Landscape at the Barcelona School of Architecture. From 2015 to 2019\, s he served as Director of Urban Planning\, Housing\, Environment\, Urban Ec ology\, and Public Space for the city of Santa Coloma de Gramenet\, Catalo nia. Her work is interested in structures and relationships of support\, a nd in how architecture participates in everyday life across different bodi es\, communities\, and scales. Her individual and collaborative work has r eceived an NYCxDESIGN Award and support from the Architectural League of N ew York\, the Center for Architecture\, NYSCA\, and the Design Trust for P ublic Space.
