 ion\, gallery hours\, or online symposium.\nOpening: Tues\, March 21st\, 6

 pril 26th\, 10am - 4pm\nLavender Fever Homecoming Week 2023 Gallery tour l
ed by co-curator and Distinguished Lecturer Cassim Shepard: Wed\, May 3rd\
, 3 pm. No RSVP required.\n\n&nbsp\;\nAround the world\, cities are experi
encing a profound housing emergency. While we need many new ideas to addre
ss the condition\, availability\, and attainability of shelter. We also ne
ed to examine the promise and pitfalls of overlooked knowledge from the re
cent past.\nMass Support explores the legacy and contemporary relevance of
the Stichting Architecten Research (SAR)\, a Dutch architectural think ta
nk active between 1964 and 1990 that proposed a radical new way of thinkin
g about mass housing\, one that fused the efficiency of industrial constru
ction with the flexibility of user customization. Initially led by John Ha
braken\, the SAR suggested new functions for the construction industry\, f
 or households\, and\, crucially\, for architects.\nAfter premiering at Ein
dhoven Technical University (TU/e) in the summer of 2022\, an updated vers
ion of this exhibition will travel to the Spitzer School of Architecture a
t City College\, City University of New York (CCNY) in the spring of 2023.
This new iteration highlights ten recent projects that resonate in differ
ent ways with the legacy of the SAR’s pathbreaking work — from new mod
els of social housing in Berlin and Barcelona to new applications of prefa
b construction in Beijing and Brooklyn.\nOn April 26th\, an international\
, virtual symposium on flexibility\, resident input\, and modular building
in contemporary\, residential architecture will complement and extend the
  exhibition’s themes\, exposing students\, academics\, policymakers\, an
d practitioners to the under-examined interface of robust community engage
ment and innovative construction technology.\nThe exhibition and symposium
are the products of a unique collaboration between the Spitzer School of
Architecture at CCNY\, The Architectural League of New York\, and the Cura
torial Research Collective of the TU/e with support of the Consulate-Gener
al of the Netherlands\, New York.
