Race and Gender: Complex Relationship Between the Social + Spatial

ArchiteXX Panel

Thursday, Nov 8, 2018

6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture
141 Convent Avenue
New York, NY 10031
128

This panel is meant to further a campus discussion on the role that race and gender play in our fields, both within the discipline, and within the spaces we design. In requiring the discipline of architecture to be a more responsive and collaborative practice, there is much to learn from our past engagement with systems of power and their impacts on race.

Panelists will give a short presentation on themselves and a selection of their work or interests as they relate to our general topic. This will be followed by a moderated discussion that ties their experiences to the following questions: How do race and gender influence our surrounding spaces? How can architecture contribute to current discourse about race and gender? How can the fields of design and architecture improve racial and gender equity?

Speakers:

    • Sarah Bolivar, Assistant Landscape Architect at Central Park Conservancy
    • Ifeoma Ebo, B Arch, M.CP / UD (MIT), LEED AP, Urban + Design | Strategy Consulting
