SSA alum Danica Vildoso (B Arch ’16) has won the 2016 AIA Queens Scholarship Design Award, garnering first place in the Studio Innovative Ideas Competition for her Bioclimatic Research Hub, her SSA thesis project she worked on under Professor Joan Krevlin as well as Harry Kendall of BKSK Architects.
On Oct. 5, 2016, BKSK Architects Partner Joan Krevlin with fellow Partner Julie Nelson hosted a networking event for SSA students and alums including a conversation on the presence and influence of women in the architecture and design world.
Professor Fabian Llonch’s 2014 Centro Cultural Viejo Mercado in Rafaela, Argentina, has garnered awards in biennials in Argentina and Brazil. The project was won in a national competition in 2011 in collaboration with Carlos Airaudo, Gerardo Caballero, and Ariel Gimenez. Students in Professor Nandini Bagchee’s advanced design studio are working with residents in the South Bronx to transform an abandoned health facility into a community center. An envisioning session between students and local residents at the Bronx Art Space was featured in the Mott Haven Herald on October 2nd, 2016.
Cheuk Kei (Chucky) Hui and Vionna Wai (5th-year B Arch) won first place in the annual NYC Student Masonry Design Competition based on their project, a proposal for the Queensboro Bridge Community Center, which they worked on in summer 2016 with Professor Ali Hocek.
