Q: I'd like information about pursuing a career in architecture—including key skills, recommended academic preparation, and next steps after high school.
A: StudyArchitecture.com (created by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture) has a fantastic online resource called “
Your Guide to a Career in Architecture” which we encourage you to review.
Q: I'm a supportive, excited parent, and I have questions about my child's transfer credits, I want to register my child for events, etc. Whom can I reach out to in the department for answers or help ?
A: If your child is 18 years or older, according to Federal Law (
FERPA) we are not allowed to share any information or answer questions about a student’s progress, record, or application without the student’s expressed written consent. Please encourage your child to contact the department and begin the process on their own. Otherwise, contact a member of the Undergraduate Affairs staff.
Q: I studied at CCNY but never finished my undergraduate degree and want to return to school. What do I do?
A: Students should complete a petition to the Committee on Course and Standing explaining their situation to be considered for readmission. Accreditation requirements and the curriculum have changed a great deal, and it is often necessary to complete additional coursework for the degree to be conferred.
Q: I have an associate’s degree and want to know how much I will be in school if I enter the program?
A: Most associate’s degrees allow applicants to transfer all general education requirements to their record here at CCNY. This leaves five years of studio and architecture requirements, which it may be possible to complete in four years. (6 general education credits must be taken at CCNY and are required for any student in this situation.)
Q: Do I have to live on campus as a freshman?
A: Students have the opportunity to apply for on-campus housing in The Towers but are not required to do so.
Q: I need information on scholarships and internships. Where do I go?
A: There are many scholarships available. Please refer to the CCNY
Scholarships & Awards page.
Q: What employment opportunities and support do I have at the Spitzer School of Architecture?
A: Students have access to the
CCNY career development office, mentorship programs, licensure advising, the Spitzer School Career Fair held annually in February, and more.
Q:What study abroad opportunities do I have at the Spitzer School of Architecture?
A: Students generally travel the summer between their third and fourth years, or on a full-semester exchange program in fourth year.
Spitzer study abroad programs include Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, and Istanbul. Students also have access to any CCNY or CUNY study abroad program offered throughout the entire university system –
CUNY Study Abroad Programs.
Q: I’m an international student. How do I apply?
A: Questions should be directed to CCNY Admissions –
International Students.
Q: I have coursework or a degree from another country. How do I determine how this would transfer over?
