The Chair’s office at Spitzer is pleased to invite all students, faculty, and staff to the next Architecture Department Lunchtime Lecture featuring one of the inaugural Spitzer Fellows, Jesse McCormick. This event will be co-sponsored by the Graduate Architecture Club (GArC). Please join us in rm. 107.
About the speaker:
Jesse McCormick is a designer, researcher, writer and educator and one of the 2022/2023' Inaugural Spitzer Research Fellows at the Spitzer School of Architecture, where he is studying Land Banks and Land Bank Practices. His work is concerned with value, equity as well as the decommodification of architecture, housing and property, and the mechanisms that can achieve it in practice.
His research has been shown at The Istanbul Design Biennale, The Oslo Architecture Triennale, The Non-Extractive Architecture Exhibition at the V-A-C Zattere, Fundacion Cerezales Antonino y Cinia, and Storefront for Art and Architecture among others. As a designer he has built work in the United States and Mexico. He received a Master of Architecture from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation in 2018, where he was awarded the William Kinne Fellows Traveling Prize, and the Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize.
