June Williamson, R.A., is associate professor in the Spitzer School of Architecture at The City College of New York, teaching in the architecture and urban design programs. She is author of Designing Suburban Futures: New Models from Build a Better Burb (Island Press, 2013) and co-author, with Ellen Dunham-Jones, of Retrofitting Suburbia: Urban Design Solution for Redesigning Suburbs (Wiley, 2009; Updated Edition, 2011), winner of the PROSE Award for architecture and planning from the Association of American Publishers. In 2013-14 she conceived the ParkingPLUS Design Challenge, inviting architects to rethink parking in Long Island’s suburban downtowns, a follow up to the 2010 Build a Better Burb urban ideas competition showcased in Designing Suburban Futures. Both projects were sponsored by the Long Island Index, a project of the Rauch Foundation. Williamson received her BA from Yale University, MArch from MIT, and MUD from the City College of New York. She has practiced architecture and urban design in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Boston and New York and has held previous teaching appointments at Columbia University, Georgia Tech, the University of Utah, and the Boston Architectural College.
