International, award winning architect and principal of estudio.entresitio, (entresitio.com), Maria Hurtado de Mendoza is an associate professor in the School of Architecture at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Prior to NJIT, she was a faculty member at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (ETSAM) for 15 years, and visiting critic at Cornell University AAP. She was granted the Rome Prize in 1996.
estudio.entresitio is a Madrid-NY based practice that is invested in the material actualization of the architectural concept. The practice has extensive building experience with an emphasis on public work that utilizes novel solutions to the functional and necessary without sacrificing the creative or exploratory.
In 2007, Architectural Record selected the firm as Design Vanguard, helping its work to be published and seen in many countries. Its built work has received more than 30 awards and honourable mentions, as the ArchDaily “Building of the Year 2012” (healthcare) for the trilogy San Blas+Usera+Villaverde, Madrid.
#house#1.130 has already been awarded Premio Coam 2014, Wan house of the year 2014, Azure Top 10 Houses, BSA’s 2014 Housing Design Awards y ACSA 2014–2015 Design Faculty Award.
Hurtado de Mendoza is an International Associate AIA and AIANY housing committee member.
All lectures are free, open to the public, and held at 6:30 pm in the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture Sciame Auditorium. Continuing Education Credit for registered New York architects is available.
