Shirish S. Joshi

Master of Urban Planning in Urban Design (2008)

Biography :

Shirish S. Joshi, senior lecturer at De Montfort University’s Leicester School of Architecture, believes that architectural education should be rooted in the urban form and ecological conditions of our environments. This interest in urban morphology has led him to work on projects including urban conservation, housing for informal settlements, building pedagogy, and documentation of buildings and settlements across India.

He has a keen interest in teaching the formative years of education and has experimented with theater and space as ways of teaching architecture. His current research explores the intersection of food production and the role of architecture and urbanization.

“The Spitzer School under Michael Sorkin’s studio gave me a solid footing to take on the challenges of urban change and its significance in teaching pedagogies.”
