Future Dean Lokko Shares Vision in AN

Incoming dean Lesley Lokko is featured in an Architect’s Newspaper interview of new leaders at U.S. architecture schools. Discussing the Spitzer School in relation to her current university in Johannesburg, she commented, “Both places have a desire to say what has previously remained unsaid: that issues of class, race, gender, and power are central to architectural production, not marginal; that diversity strengthens architectural, landscape, and urban culture; that difference matters, not because it is ‘different,’ but because it enriches discourse.”

A UK-trained, Scottish-Ghanaian architect, academic, and best-selling novelist, Lokko will become dean in December 2019.
