Spitzer Studio Work on Rikers Island Featured in Architectural Digest
A Spitzer School Spring 2017 Advanced Studio led by Martin Stigsgaard explored strategies that can tackle challenges of mass incarceration. Some of their work is discussed in a recent Architectural Digest article.
Students investigated pathways that have potential to improve the U.S. penal system through architecture and strategic thinking. With input from human rights activists, sociologists, legal professionals, former inmates, alongside a visit to a maximum security prison, the studio investigated ideas for rehabilitation.
An upcoming event in the Sciame Lecture Series, curated by Professor Stigsgaard, will continue exploring this topic. Sign up here to join the conversation on mass incarceration and the prison industrial complex on Thursday, February 25, at 5:30 p.m.
