B. Arch Student Presents at the IASS Structures Conference

Rob Harrison (B. Arch 5th year) submitted and presented a compelling paper involving the research and design of timber gridshell structures at the IASS Annual Symposium and Spatial Structures Conference.

Rob worked on this project over the course of two semesters, with the original goal of designing and building a gridshell cabin. Over time, the project evolved to highlight the research of gridshell design and construction techniques. His paper focuses on specific areas of exploration, which include form finding, structural analysis, pragmatic detailing solutions and affordable construction. Rob then built a full scale model of a partial structure to test attachment of exterior cladding and details.
