Spitzer Team Wins Masonry Innovation Competition
Spitzer professor Mohammad Bolhassani and Ahmed Helal (B.Arch ‘22) have won the highly competitive International Masonry Institute’s Joan B. Calambokidis Masonry Innovation Award for their project Perforated Masonry in the Young Architects/Engineers category. Their project attempts to improve upon an unrealized bridge design by Leonardo da Vinci through the use of negative space, reducing the amount of material needed by almost 70% while preserving structural integrity. Professor Bolhassani and Helal will be presented their award, accompanied by a $10,000 prize, in Boston on September 25, 2022.
