Prof. Sean Weiss is recipient of the 2025 CCNY President’s Award for Outstanding Faculty Service

We are proud to announce that Sean Weiss, Architecture Department Chair and Associate Professor, was recently honored with the President’s Award for Outstanding Faculty Service at the 2025 President’s Faculty and Staff Service & Excellence Awards on May 6th, 2025, in the Great Hall.

The President’s Award for Outstanding Faculty Service is an annual recognition presented to a CCNY faculty member whose exceptional contributions significantly enhance the College, its services, and the broader College community. This prestigious award celebrates faculty who, in addition to their excellence in teaching and scholarly or creative work, demonstrate exemplary service to CCNY and its community.

Prof. Weiss has been a cornerstone of the SSA community for many years, consistently embodying the spirit of this esteemed award. His dedication extends beyond the classroom and his impressive scholarship, positively impacting various facets of SSA.

Sean Weiss is an architectural and urban historian. He received a BA from Vassar College and a PhD in Art History from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He co-edited and contributed an essay to the March 2020 special section of the Journal of Urban History on the materiality of images in urban planning. His additional essays and reviews have appeared in Technology and Culture, Log, and the 2019 edited volume, Non-Standard Architectural Productions: Between Aesthetic Experience and Social Action. His book and exhibition reviews have appeared in caa.reviews, Casabella, JAE, and JSAH.

Prof. Weiss’s commitment to service aligns seamlessly with the criteria for this award, showcasing a philosophy that emphasizes contributing to enhanced learning, scholarly activity, and overall excellence within the SSA community. His leadership as Department Chair from 2022-2025 has undoubtedly made a lasting positive impact. SSA extends its heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Weiss for this well-deserved recognition of his exceptional service and significant influence on our institution and community.
