John Ploss, B Arch ’77, funds travel scholarship at SSA

John Ploss, a distinguished alumnus of The City College of New York’s Bernard & Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, is giving back to his alma mater after a successful career as an architect. He’s funding a $5,000 annual travel scholarship for Spitzer architecture students nearly 50 years after graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the School.

John spent 44 years as an architect in San Francisco.  He was self-employed for 33 years and retired at age 70.

“I’m thrilled that John is supporting this travel fellowship for an architecture student at Spitzer. Travel abroad is life changing; it is one of the most important opportunities we can offer to our students,” said Marta Gutman, Dean of the Spitzer School.

Advanced students in the undergraduate and graduate programs in architecture are eligible to apply for the John Ploss Travel Fellowship. The winner will be selected by a selection committee based on a research proposal with a concise description of the topic, a bibliography, itinerary with a budget, and a transcript.
