Dr. María Fullaondo is practicing architect and academic currently holding a Senior Lecturer position at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. She has extensive international experience in architecture education in various universities. Her research, creative work, and teaching are very much interweaved, blurring the boundaries between activities and outputs. She has been working for nearly twenty-five years at the intersections of architecture, urban design, art, visual communication, and media. Her PhD on the history of modern architecture through the lenses of the Museum of Modern Art was awarded the First Prize in the most prestigious award in Spain for an architectural thesis, resulting in its publication as the book, Casas en el Jardín del MOMA: La Consolidación de un Museo. Her major fields of research are drawing, experimental modes of criticism, and methodologies that are directly related to the processes of design and creation. Her book, The Drawing Bazaar (2015) provides a new perspective on the meaning and scope of the term ‘drawing’ and its impact on the education and performance of contemporary architects. The Journal of Architectural Education (2018) published her most recent investigations presenting her ongoing commitment to research-led teaching and innovative pedagogical research.
Additionally, Fullaondo is a Visiting Professor at the Spitzer School of Architecture this semester.
