Professor Salcedo Strategizes for Equitable Reopening
Julio Salcedo Fernandez, Spitzer’s Urban Design program director, was invited to participate together with other leading design firms in Neighborhoods Now, a tailored recovery effort through August 2020 for four New York City communities of color hit hard by COVID-19: Bed-Stuy, Jackson Heights, Kingsbridge, and Washington Heights. His firm, Scalar Architecture, will join Neighborhoods Now in working toward neighborhood-specific strategies for safe reopening first and addressing deep structural inequalities that disproportionately effect communities of color.
The outcome will be a set of design recommendations, prototypes, and installations empowering communities to respond to their immediate needs, while contributing to the city-wide strategy on pandemic response.
