Turkey and Syria after the Earthquakes Panels Co-curated by Prof. Ali Höcek

Join CARRRE — Collective Action for Readiness, Recovery, and Resilience — for two panels (Sat. July 22 and Sat. July 29) on “Turkey and Syria after the Earthquakes” co-curated by Professor Ali Höcek. The panels are free and held both virtually and in person with partners AIA New York | Center for Architecture and Salt Online (Istanbul).

“Turkey and Syria after the Earthquakes” is a series of discussions curated by CARRRE, a group of Turkish architects and academics who practice internationally. The organization’s goals are to amplify awareness among a global audience regarding the catastrophic repercussions of the February earthquakes in Turkey and Syria and assist local relief efforts, provide professional expertise, and aid in the development of long-term rebuilding strategies.

The first panel, “Emergency Responses” on July 22, will provide an overview of the affected regions, discuss ongoing response efforts, and explore avenues to pursue within the built environment to address the urgent needs of impacted communities.

The second panel, “Mid-Term Relief and Transitional Programs” on July 29, will examine the challenges that arise from the extended occupancy of temporary disaster shelters, including housing, community spaces, and settlements.
