João Batista Vilanova Artigas is one of the most important Latin American architects of the 20th century. Artigas’ work is the origins of what became known as The School of São Paulo, a mode of architecture thinking and practice which has most recently gained international visibility through the work of his disciple, Paulo Mendes da Rocha (Pritzker Prize, 2006). We will understand the social dimension of the modern spatial paradigms developed by Artigas, looking at the mediations of boundaries between private and collective spaces in his work.
